Kat's head drooped over her notebook, and she snapped back to attention with a jerk, forcing her eyes to stay open as the professor droned on and on, more or less reading straight out of the Psych book. She glanced down to the open page and inhaled sharply as she saw what she had been doodling.
A face. A deformed, hairy face with sharp teeth and narrow eyes. She quickly turned to a clean page, but still couldn't get the image out of her mind.
It had been an awful dream, really. The moreso because it had started out so pleasantly: an idle flirtation in the quad with that cute boy from her history class. But then the world had changed into that gloomy version of Manchester she'd dreamed about before, and the cute boy... turned into that frightening figure.
/It's time to join the family? What was that supposed to mean?/ And if that weren't bad enough, a pack of wolves ran into the quad, too. /At least they made that... whatever it was... go away./ But one had stayed behind and talked to her. /Why not? It was a weird enough dream already./
But this one had started sounding like the wind in her last dream, telling her she was lost and had to find her way. And it had said something about protecting her, too. But he had been even more confusing than the man-beast. /Walk the trust?/
Someone brushed against her, then, and Kat looked up with a start, to find that class was over. She slowly gathered her things and made her way out of class, her brow still furrowed in a thoughtful frown.
And she avoided the quad altogether.
